Located within the Julia Matthews Wilkinson Center for Prints and Drawings, the H-E-B Study Room is a public study center that welcomes classes and individuals who wish to view works on paper from the Blanton’s collection not currently on display.
The H-E-B Study Room is open by appointment only. To make an appointment or ask about researching the collection, contact the Prints and Drawings department at prints@blantonmuseum.org or call (512) 232-7516 during office hours.
Prints & Drawings Collection
The Blanton’s collection includes more than 18,000 works on paper (prints, drawings, and photographs), making it the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind in Texas and the Southwest. The department’s highlights include the Barbara Duncan Collection of Latin American drawings, the Gilberto Cárdenas and Dolores Garcia Collection of Chicano and Latino art, the Leo Steinberg Collection of prints, and the Suida-Manning Collection of early modern European drawings. The department also showcases American prints from the first half of the 20th century given to the Blanton by Julia (B.F.A. 1970) and Stephen Wilkinson (J.D. 1974) and their family’s Still Water Foundation.
University Class Visits
The H-E-B Study Room can accommodate 20 university students at a time. The Blanton’s Assistant Curator of Prints and Drawings Sarah Bane can help select artworks around a relevant theme or time period and can lead looking exercises and content-based discussions, depending on course needs.
Please email prints@blantonmuseum.org to schedule a class visit or discuss materials.
Print Pop-Up Exhibitions
See works on paper up close and learn about various printmaking styles and methods across centuries. These one-day only themed exhibitions in the H-E-B Study Room take place at select Blanton All Day events.
